So I completely forgot about posting this @w@;;;;;; This was meant to be posted around New Year but I guess I never got down to it.
Coda asked why Roma is in a dress when she saw the W.I.Ps of this, and so I’ll tell you guys a little story behind this.
Back in the old days, from about mid 16th century till the late 19th, or even the early 20th century, it was completely normal for young boys and girls to wear dresses. This process for boys is called unbreech. When they’ve reached a certain where they’d stop wearing dresses and switch to actual boy clothing. This time it is called breeching. This could vary from the age of 2 up until the age of 8. For poorer and lower class family who couldn’t afford clothing, it could last until working age. I think somewhere, it is mentioned that someone didn’t breech until they were 18.
The reason for this process is, and this is where I laugh for how relevant it is, potty training, or the lack thereof. Dresses and gowns were easy to undo, unlike the complicated fastening of many Early Modern breeches and trousers.
I have seen that one post going around tumblr where they also talk about this topic, but I can’t find it for the life of me even though I liked it on both accounts. If anyone knows where it is please link OTL

After learning all this, it was inevitable that I would paint unbreeched Romano, because how could Spain not have like a dozens paintings of Romano throughout his house in various fancy dresses and gowns?

I was trying to draw chibiromano and somehow this happened ahaha. Teen!Romano… ish? I’m not too sure about his outfit, but oh well. Still looks fancy on him, yeah?
